OGU MAG is pleased to announce Jean SADAO’s first solo exhibition in Japan, "The multi-sensory Impossibility of a Worm", a four-day event on his video-art, photography and drawings. The exhibition will feature Jean SADAO (1976, lives and works in Tokyo, Japan) who expresses himself through an artistic production that combines cinema, theatre, performance and video art.

SADAO’s latest video-art work, "The multi-sensory Impossibility of a Worm" (2017) premiered at the “The Body Link” exhibition in Amsterdam and for this special occasion will showcase photographs and drawings.

“The video work will raise questions about the body, the sensorial potentialities and their limits, and establishes the hypothesis of an unusual tactile and bodily language as a means of communication able to approach universality and naturalness, by questioning its possible implications in terms of influence on the person and on the community.” (Sonia Arata, curator and director, Red Stamp Art Gallery).

In addition to the video, Jean Sadao will show a series of small-sized photos and drawings, taken from the images of the video itself and placed as if the artwork spread out from the screen, infiltrating the gallery.

While the moving images are meant to have an end as soon as the video finishes, the photos and the drawings will assume an endless lifetime quality, placed in such way to transcend space and time itself, joining a more definite and whole visual memory.

The drawings reproduce the content of the photos through a graphic mapping of the shapes and shadows inspired by palm lines, which are determined by our DNA and therefore are a unique and inimitable expression of our identity.

In the video the artist puts in place the derangement of human communicative systems and structures, similarly through the drawings he reiterates and rebuilds the images transforming the visual and figurative perception.

In addition to the video-art, photography and drawings exhibition, the screening of Jean SADAO’s other video-art works and talk session will be programmed.
